EVERY CHILD · EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO GROW

AI for child malnutrition
screening and growth

GrowthSight is developing AI-assisted screening to help frontline health workers identify children at risk of stunting and wasting and monitor their growth. Our goal is quick, accurate measurements from smartphone pictures, so children who need further assessment can be identified early.

RECOGNISE THE NEED · SUPPORT THE NEXT STEP

Identify growth concerns early
Guide the next step

Malnutrition is not always easy to recognise by looking at a child. Regular screening helps health workers identify children who need further assessment and explain growth concerns to caregivers.

We are developing GrowthSight to make this work easier: take guided pictures, review growth measurements and use the findings to plan referral or follow-up. Measurements over time help teams see whether a child’s growth is improving.

Screen for stunting and wasting

Use height-for-age to screen for stunting. For wasting, choose height with Bluetooth-connected weight or Automated MUAC — two separate offerings.

01 / STUNTING SCREENINGPilot capability

Check height for age

Estimate a child’s height from guided smartphone pictures. Combined with age and sex, height-for-age screening can flag a concern that needs closer assessment.

  • Guided, three-pose image capture
  • Height considered alongside age and sex
  • A starting point for trained teams to review

02 / WASTING SCREENING

Two routes to screen for wasting

Height with Bluetooth-connected weight, or Automated MUAC. Each is a separate offering; neither requires the other.

Height + Bluetooth Connected Weight

Combine GrowthSight’s height estimate with weight from a Bluetooth-connected weighing scale to support weight-for-height screening.

For programmes using height and weight together. Measurement quality and screening findings need review by trained teams.

Pilot capability

Automated MUAC

Calculate mid-upper arm circumference from smartphone pictures. Use the same images captured for GrowthSight height calculation to support wasting screening.

No weighing scale required. Pilot evaluation will compare image estimates against trained-worker reference MUAC measurements.

Weight-for-height and MUAC can identify different children. Their screening results stay separate, and concerns require further assessment. WHO wasting guideline ↗

HOW IT WORKS

Take three pictures
Get results during the visit

Designed for quick, guided picture capture and results on the phone during the same visit. Review measurements, explain the findings to the caregiver and decide the next step.

ABOUT US

Built for frontline teams
Focused on child growth

GrowthSight is a deeptech startup building AI solutions for child malnutrition screening and growth monitoring.

We use deep learning and computer vision to turn smartphone pictures into useful growth measurements. We are working towards faster screening and more accurate growth monitoring, so frontline teams can recognise concerns and support timely follow-up.

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow well. We are developing our products with that purpose in mind, and seeking pilot enquiries to evaluate them in frontline settings.

FAQ

Frequently asked
questions

Is GrowthSight ready for field deployment?

GrowthSight is in development and seeking pilot enquiries. Stunting screening and Automated MUAC are pilot capabilities. Bluetooth-connected weighing is part of the offering. Each full screening workflow needs field evaluation before wider use; speed and accuracy are development goals, not established performance claims.

Do I need a weighing scale?

Only for the Height + Bluetooth Connected Weight offering. Automated MUAC is a separate route and does not require a weighing scale. Height-for-age screening uses height, age and sex.

Does GrowthSight work on every smartphone?

The application is being developed for Android. Supported devices, camera requirements and compatible Bluetooth scales will be confirmed when scoping a pilot; compatibility with every Android phone is not assumed.

Does screening replace a full assessment?

No. Image-derived measurements support screening and need review. Weight-for-height and MUAC can identify different children. Concerns require further assessment by trained teams; the application does not replace that judgement.

Which children can GrowthSight screen?

GrowthSight supports screening for children aged 6–59 months.

Is GrowthSight a certified medical device?

No. GrowthSight is not yet certified as a medical device. We plan to validate the product in field settings and gather evidence before seeking the applicable medical-device certification.

How will child data be handled?

GrowthSight is being designed with privacy and responsible data handling in mind. Consent, access, storage, and retention must be agreed for each pilot before data collection. This website does not collect child assessment records.
